Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 5 - Itsy Bitsy Little Food Thief.

Upon exiting her space, Hong Luo laid down with her exhausted body and mind, slipping into a deep slumber.

At first there was nothing but darkness, thinking she was going to have a dreamless night.

Yet, is that sniffling she hears? Broken voices crying, some disorderly, some loud and full of energy, whilst some soft almost inaudible.

"Who's crying?"

Within the darkness, forlorn figures ghost their way in.

"Who are you?" With faces embraced by their palms, how can she tell if she knew them or not?

"Mother don't cry, I'm sure she wouldn't want this. It will hurt your health."

"This mother knows... but I can't accept."

The child which was comforting the woman, soon starts crying herself.

Why do they seem familiar? Where have I heard them before?

"Master..." A dispirited voice appears behind her. Though she could not discern the mother and child, how could she not recognize this voice?

"Rong'r?"

When she turns, there's no one. Even the group of unknowns vanished, but she's too focus on Rong'r to notice.

"Rong'r!" Shouting at the top of her lungs, so load her voice cracks.

"I'll avenge you master, even if I have die trying!" This voice sounded vindictive but also broken hearted.

No. NO!

"Rong'r where are you?"

"Don't do something stupid!"

"Revenge leads to nothing, it won't bring me back!"

"Don't let it run you dry and leave you empty when it's gone!"

"And be damned if you let it kill you!"

Running her voice ragged along with her legs, pushing through the darkness with all her might. How can she let her precious disciple lead to a path of ruin? She can't! She won't accept this!

Pushing herself, past the limit that shouldn't even exist, as if breaking the laws of heaven to bend space and time.

Yes Hong Luo is a lazy fool. She'd rather sleep all day then do something unnecessary. If you hurt her, she doesn't care.

But, if it's for those she considers her own. You won't see her laying down. One way or another she will do what must be done. Going against gods or devil's, she'd face them without a trace of fear or regret.

Because regret is the worst thing in life.

"RONG'R!" Eyes full of tears, yet none have fallen to prove their existence. Just waiting...

"Master doesn't want this!"

This was the last thing she wanted!

Soon the darkness fades. A long hallway has replaced the empty space. This place is very familiar to Hong Luo, but she's too worked up to take notice.

"Rong'r? Rong'r. Rong'r!"

She slips and lands into a wet substance. With further inspection, that substance was blood!

Her heart dropped to the lowest it had ever been. Racing to her feet, she pushes on, following the blood.

"Rong'r! Rong'r, master is coming!"

"Master will be there soon. Don't you dare, don't you dare...!" Her voice choking on every word, not daring to say that last one aloud. It's taking all her willpower not break the film on her eyes and release the flood that threatens drown her.

Coming to the end of the hallway, a light leaking out the end door. She nearly broke it down as she entered. Screaming out one last time.

"RONG'R!"

Then she woke up. Tears staining her face and bed. A dream?

Hong Luo "..."

She was silent for a long time, before she fell back to sleep, but this time she didn't dream at all.

...

After two days of sleep, the sky still relentlessly pouring. Hong Luo opens her eyes listlessly. The room illuminated by small rays of light leaking from the window Goryeo paper, embroidered by magpies ascending the sky. The light was dim, thanks to the absence of the sun the past few days.

Looking all around, waves of emotions roll through her. She bites her bottom lip, breathing in and out to calm herself.

Then her head drops to her hands.

This is real. I'm still here. I should have accepted this already. Why am I still unable to? I know it took me months to accept my life as Mozen, but why am I having so much trouble as Hong Luo? Shouldn't it be easier?

Her lips tremble, blood breaks free, staining her pale skin. Am I scared? Why should I be, I've died twice! There should be nothing I fear! Nothing at all... yet here I am...

Leaving the embrace of her hands, a resolute light gleams in those usual lazy eyes. Lips curving into an obdurate smile.

Moments later, Hong Luo decides to take a trip to the herb garden in her space, hoping to gain some inspiration to fix her physique. And yet disappointment rains on her parade. She's met with her own wall of resistance.

Stomping her foot in frustration, "Dammit, why did I come up with this stupid rule for this array. I'm my own perpetrator for more work!"

Hong Luo had previously placed an array around her herb garden, which won't let anyone enter, until it has verification from their essence and spiritual energy. Unfortunately she has the spirit energy but not the essence energy. This was a safety measure against her spirit beast. Since they would secretly eat the herbs without permission, and now it's backfired against its master, what a sad coincidence.

Why is life forcing me to use my brain?

After sitting around for an extended amount of time, parsing the information in her head.

Once satisfied, she has Little Soul collect a list of items. These items will be used to help her bypass the rules of her own array. If I knew a day like this would come, I'd have made an on and off switch.

It will take time to gather the material.

Since she still felt restless, she decides to go take a trip to walk off the rest of her indignation.

. . .

Undercover of rain, no one is none the wiser, that a little girl dressed in rags, has made her way into the inner residence, of the Hong manor.

Atop the golden shingles adorning the manor courtyards, a shadow scampers unhindered. Hiding herself within the sound of the fallen rain.

Hong Luo peers at the guards patrolling. "With my experience and spirit energy spread out all around, there's no place I can't go without being discovered. If you had a flawless record, you don't have one now."

She snickers in amus.e.m.e.nt.

Leaving the residents none the wiser, going in and out of courtyards. She grabs food on the way.

Those servants are going to be in so much trouble. Mmm does this count as revenge? Eh... She shrugs her shoulders. Obviously she doesn't care one way or the other.

Taking in the old sights, refreshing her memories of this place. There isn't a corner she doesn't know, being thrown in every direction by the residents.

There was even a time I was tied to a horse and dragged along. That was their idea of a tour. No one helping, but they sure did laugh at my expense.

"Ahaha."

While going down memory lane, she comes across some interesting conversations.

Topic's like how the empress is setting up a banquet to find a wife for the crown prince. Seems they are aiming for sooner rather then later. Eh, this ones kinda boring.

The herb shops are looking for helpers. Apparently its becoming more difficult to gather herbs lately. Perhaps due to the weather. If my memory is correct this rainstorm isn't the first bit of unusual weather. Could be other reasons but I'm unsure. This one is also boring.

Then there's talk of the old imperial physician that opened a clinic. He left the palace when the emperor was forced to signed his papers for retirement. Wonder how he managed to force the emperors hand. This ones little interesting, while also being boring.

Oh, looks like the weapon smiths are also running low on materials. There was a robbery that emptied out their storehouses. Yet another boring one.

Oh now here's something good! It appears news has spread that I've died. This is truly good! I won't have anyone to bother me now. I can take my time finding a new abode.

With a newly improved mood, she resumes walking. Going here and there, passing half an hour dilly dallying.

Unexpectedly, she was prepared to leave, but came to a complete stop. A small piece of information hits her like a rock, killing off her merriment.

She palmed her face in frustration, "Dammit, I forgot about my stupid life gem. As long as that's around, not only will they know I'm not dead, if they find a gem expert, my location will be compromised!"

A mischievous smile adorns her face. Laughing maniacally, rubbing her hands like a greedy merchant, a meat bun hanging from her mouth, with a hint of ruthlessness in her eyes. Well, just means I need to go steal it. It's not like they'd miss it or anything.

Stuffing the remaining food down her throat, using the rain to wash her hands and rinse her mouth. She straightens her stance, releasing a more penetrating wave of spirit energy. Spreading it all across the manor, leaving not one corner untouched.

After one hour of in-depth search, locating what she wanted to find. While regrettably learning some things she wish she didn't.

Rubbing the knot between her brows, "I didn't know third cousin liked cuc.u.mbers that much, what a... deep relationship he has with them. My eyes have been opened, but now... I wish I could close them." Goosebumps pervade her, shivering something fierce, as if she had touched something nasty.

Rushing through the night, entering into the Carnation Courtyard. This happens to be where her uncle, the head of the house resides. Just like it's name it's surrounded by white carnations and fake mountains. Each side mirroring itself, a pond wrapping its way around. Vermilion bridges leading into and out.

Within her uncles study room, that's not too big and not too small, Hong Luo sneaks her way in. From her search, her life gem should be in here. Looking upon the desk, an assortment of life gems were on display.

Pursing her lips, a quick look of them all. Upon confirming none were hers, she releases her spirit energy again. Leading her to a small drawer in the desk. Inside sits a sandalwood box. Upon opening it Hong Luo identifies her life gem. After picking it up, seeing nothing wrong, she places it in her space.

Looking back she glances at two other life gems. Her instincts tell her to also take them along as well. But what really grabs her attention is something else in the box that shouldn't be there.
