Dawn Of Twilight

Chapter 72 - New brother

In the following week, during the day when Tobi was all wrapped up Christopher called everyone over towards their dining room, he appeared a bit flustered as more than once he would sneak a peek at his wife Christy.

Christopher couldn't put his words in place, since he really wanted a way out of the burden on his ċhėst. But Christy was already staring at him, including the girls and his baby son Tobi, since he called a family meeting everyone was full of anxiety and curiosity.

His head faces downwards, 'Dammit, what can I say? I guess I should just let the bird out of the cage.'

Christopher looked at Christy in the eyes, his heart squeezed in a vice, but he still said"I'm sorry darling, but I have a young son outside our marital home."

Even though Christopher had considered things through before speaking, he still felt bad knowing fully well he had disappointed and betrayed his wife's trust and feelings, by hiding such a secret.

Christy was shocked by those words as she stood there petrified, she had trouble describing her sudden surge of emotion, hearing such shocking news.

He slowly walked over to Christy's side, as he gently tried to pick up Christy's hands beside her. Her beautiful eyes were already brimming with tears and that meant trouble for him.

She stood there, dazed for a moment before she loosened her grip on the rope holding the basket upon their dining table. Before slowly walking towards their room.

Christopher had a myriad of expressions, as he stares at her figure. There was already a storm within his heart, he could not run away from the one brewing beside him. So with a deep sigh, Christopher could only hope that his wife and children could forgive him.

Meanwhile, Tobi and his sisters were ecstatic, anxious, and excited. They couldn't help their imagination run a bit wild, how would it feel to have an elder brother.

What was it like to have an elder brother? Was he tall and strong like those princes in shining armor? or was he bad? Would he treat them with love and affection?

They were quite excited most especially Tobi, he wanted a brother he could laugh, play and cry with, one he could seek advice from and share little secret like how sworn brothers does.

He wasn't sure if his new brother would love him, the same way. Tobi was really happy, it was their first time having an elder brother even if it was a half brother. In his previous life, he wasn't in his brother's good book nor did they get along well, and having one in this new world might not be so bad. He was really looking forward to what type of person his elder brother was, which there would be so much to learn from him.

This shocking revelation, brought excitement and anticipation to the children since they didn't know what it felt like suddenly having an elder brother to protect them.

But to Christy it sounded like a sudden bolt of thunderclap to her ears, it meant infidelity. This means all along he had been deceiving, and cheating on her behind her back while claiming he loved her.

The following days weren't easy on both Christy and Christopher, she felt as though she had been living with a lying stranger all along. And there is a possibility of him doing it more than once, which she didn't dare think too deeply.

At night, Christopher had a hard time sleeping on the bed even though he was quite exhausted from work. He stares at his wife's frailty and back facing him. A soft and warm back with streaks of perspiration appeared in front of his eyes.

Seeing Christy giving him the cold shoulders, meant his days were number and he would have less portion of her delicious meals, her beautiful charming smile, or soothing magical voice that would always take away all his worries.

Christopher cursed in his heart, all of a sudden he felt lost, helpless, and confused. He promised himself if could pass through this phase, there won't be the next time, and he would not dare to look at another woman outside his marital home.

"Why?"Christy said with her back in front of him, her voice sounded a bit muffled from sobbing too much. Christopher was already expecting this question.

Though he was at loss for words, but only for a moment. The matter was too serious to just be swept aside because it was a painful and irrefutable truth he could not hide from her forever.

"It all happened ten years ago, and I was drunk." An eerie silence fell within the room, revealing the truth was what he was trying so hard to do. Looking for a possible alternative explanation.

But there wasn't any, it was his fault and only his, no one push nor forced him.

"How, how could you do this to me? Have I been a bad wife to you?" Tears slowly streamed down her eyes, as Christy kept shivering.

Christopher felt his heartache, making him feel like his world was slowly crumbling on him.

He was afraid of saying something wrong, afraid of losing his wife, or even worse she walking away from his life with their children.

Or what would not sound like a cheat covering his exposed tracks, it needed to at least sound reasonable to her, that he didn't mean it and all that happened was all a sudden mistake on his side. That he didn't expect such would have happened.

No matter how common words were, Christopher doubted that it would make any sense now. But at this moment even though he felt fatigued, he slowly crawled out of their bed and knelt beside her, with his hands on her ankle and his head on top.

"Let me start by saying that you are an amazing and important person to me. I also want to let you know that I had never wanted, or intended to hurt you.

I know it will be difficult for you to believe or forgive me, but I have to let you know that it all happened after our little quarrel and I got drunk. I am not saying this to hide the fact, that I had cheated on you and betrayed your trust. I know I don't deserve your forgiveness, no matter what, I just want to let you know am deeply sorry and still very much love you and I promise there won't be a next time." Christopher's voice sounded hoarse, as he was too broken-hearted, he needed his wife to at least believe in him.

Christy silently laid on the bed as she suddenly got a weird feeling pondering about her life. The man beside her, was her husband she knows for more than two decades, and yet, why did he cheat on her? She never knew him as a womanizer or flirt. If he was tired of their marriage, or her, she would have at least see or notice anything strange about him.

Christy could not understand why he cheated on her, but she wanted to see if he really meant all that he said. She kept silent, ȧssuming a nonchalant attitude as she listened to what he was saying.

Meanwhile, the night kept on passing as Christopher soft clung onto Christy's legs, and his voice became muffled from sobbing through the night. Without him realizing it, it was already morning.

The birds slowly chirp, as the morning rooster kept on crowing until everyone was up for their morning activities for the day.

After waking up, due to the morning alarm Christy was shocked to see her husband, still kneeling beside the bed with his hands and head on her ankle. His voice sounded muffled and quite hoarse from sobbing and talking throughout the night.

Despite trying to act cold and ignorant, Christy could not help but feel guilty about it. She has never seen her husband like this before.

She loved him, and she was sure he loved her too. With her husband's attitude and character, she was sure her husband wouldn't go this far, just lie to her again.

The more she looked, the more she felt he truly meant what he said all along.

With her slender figure, a smile slowly crept up her beautiful face as tears stream down her cheeks.

At this moment while Christopher was still kneeling, with his back bent. He heard Christy's gentle, he slowly lifted his head.

It must be an illusion caused by fatigue...

Christopher was dazed, he looked around and found out that he was the only person within their room, so his wife must have been calling him...Yes, it was definitely him nobody else.

He was unable to swiftly react at all as he felt his wife, gently embrace him.

Her fresh scent filled his nostril as her soft hug overwhelmed him. He did not react at least for the first few scends, even though he was dumbfounded that she might have forgiven him. He didn't expect it to be this fast.

"Darling, I believe and forgive you...." Christopher tightly hugged his wife, her beautiful face lodged onto his ċhėst. While sobbed uncontrollably, his grip was strong yet gentle, as though afraid he might hurt her. Again he was afraid that this might an illusion, that the moment he released her, Christy would disappear.

Christopher softly pulled a distance as he wiped her tears, it could be said it been a long time he had seen his wife cry this way. He held onto Christy's hands, they were both full of smiles as they stare at each other in the eyes afraid, this lovely moment would disappear.

Christopher felt his stomach rumble and all he could feel was hunger. He was suddenly overcome by hunger.

Meanwhile, Christy chuckled seeing her husband's embarrassed look. Ever since their little quarrel, he has not been able to muster the strength to eat properly due to his guilty conscience.

Christopher noticed his wife looking at him, he slowly stood up.

"Dear, today let this stupid husband of yours, make breakfast for everyone!"
