11. The Mirror

Translator: Ann Yi

“Larry’s soul is just out of his body. He is not dead.”

It was a comment from a strange ID. This ID appeared quite frequently under the Twitter post about his death, and the avatar of the ID was also quite memorable. It was a strange image of a mirror.

That was weird…

Was this guy unable to accept the fact that he was dead or did he know something? If it was the latter, maybe Larry should start the investigation of his death by finding out who was behind this ID.

Unfortunately, before Larry could come up with a better plan, he realized that his hands had become transparent and turned into claws.

“Tchacha-chacha-chacha-chow! (The run time of the spiritual power is too short. It’s just been a few minutes and I can no longer take on human form!)” He shook the fluffy tail that had reappeared. A question suddenly came to Larry’s mind.

So, he swept his tail across Murk, “A-hee-aee-ha-hee! (Murk, I need to ask you something.)”

Murk felt that Larry was irritating. Cats were creatures that slept during the day and stayed active at night. He stayed awake at the door the whole night last night and right now he only wanted to sleep.

“Meow! (Just say!)”

“Fra-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow? (Did you see my tail when I became a human?)”

“Meow! (Nope!)” Humans are really boring. Even if they become fox, they won’t become smart.

A stupid fox.

When Frost came back in the afternoon, he was a little surprised to see the two little guys sleeping obediently on the sofa. He expected that Murk’s cage would be opened, but the house wasn’t in a mess as he thought.

Frost’s life after work was really boring. In Larry’s eyes, he lived a life of an ascetic monk. He really didn’t know how Dr. Frost, a young man in his twenties, just managed to cook, have dinner, read books, wash up and go to bed after work.

Larry looked at the clock in the living room. It was just nine o’clock! Nine o’clock!!! Was this the time to sleep for young people at modern times???

Even though he was a fox, Larry didn’t want to sleep so early. He rushed forward and threw his body onto Frost’s back. “Yahoooo!”

Frost felt that something landed on his back, and he couldn’t help but laugh. Wild animals preyed on other animals. When people encountered wild animals in the wild, it was best for them not to turn around and escape, which would trigger their desire to hunt.

Sometimes, at the zoo, tourists took pictures with their backs facing the zoo cages, and they were treated as prey by the wild animals inside as well.

But Larry was obviously intending to play. Fortunately, the little fox just threw himself on Frost’s back and didn’t directly attack him.

Perhaps the Elizabethan collar he wore stood in the way and he couldn’t bite him.

Frost gently carried Larry from his back into his arms and comforted the little guy by caressing him.

“Tchacha-chacha-chacha-chow! (I’m warning you, if you touch me again, I’m certain you and I will have a forever-unforgettable-night tonight!)”

Frost touched Larry’s soft belly regretfully. If only he could understand what the little guy was saying. It was really inconvenient for him to lose his innate ability.

Especially now, pet cats and dogs had been generally spoiled ever since they were born. If, unfortunately, they were abandoned or abused by their owners, the psychological damage that was caused to them would be almost indelible.

Therefore, Frost not only treated the illnesses of the pets, but also was a psychologist to them.

These days he was unable to understand what the little guys was saying. In the past, the small animals would just tell him why they were feeling uncomfortable, and he could immediately figure out what was wrong with them and give them the right treatment, but now he had to put animals through several rounds of examinations before he could make a diagnosis, which increased his workload a lot.

He placed Larry on the bed. The fox’s fur was soft and smooth. It had a velvety touch to him. No wonder there were still numerous poachers even though poaching was prohibited.

When Frost saw the injured little fox on the road, he felt that the fox’s injuries had something to do with poaching. Fortunately, the fox came back alive.

Frost touched Larry’s hair and let his trains of thought wander freely. And pretty soon, he fell asleep.

Larry, who had been pretending to be asleep all this time, opened his eyes quietly. When he heard Dr. Frost’s steady breathing, he started to move slowly.

‘I wonder how often I can inhale his spiritual power. Some fairy books say that when a fox and a mortal stay together, it will not take long before the mortal gets invaded by the demonic aura and his body will get weak.’

‘However, the reason why most men who encountered foxes were weak was because of kidney deficiency. So, if I don’t really have sex with Frost, it should be…okay, right?’

‘At worst, I’ll stop when Dr. Frost becomes uncomfortable!’

It was another night of romance, and the eyes Frost saw in his dreams became clearer and clearer. He could even see his reflection in that boy’s eyes, but he could not figure out who he was.

Before he opened his eyes, he felt that something heavy was pressed against his chest, and when he grabbed it, his hands were filled with hair.

He sighed helplessly. It was rare for small animals to rely on him, not to mention a wild one. So he should cherish it.

After Frost left, Larry changed into human form again. This time, he didn’t bother himself with the question of whether he had real balls or not.

He turned on the computer and found the company’s obituary. He found that strange comment and clicked into the homepage of that ID, hoping to find some useful clue.

He didn’t find anything, but he could tell that this person was his avid fan. The homepage was filled with shares about Larry when he was a human. The only original Twitter post was a picture of a book signed by Larry at a signing session in State Galia.

This person really liked Mirrors. His profile was a mirror, and there was a pattern on the back of his hand. It didn’t look like a tattoo, but felt a bit like a birthmark. It was a marked feature, wasn’t it?

How to find this person and would every question be answered after he found that person?

Was it possible that this person was just a fan who couldn’t accept the fact that he died?

The more Larry thought about it, the more his head ached. He shook his head and decided not to think about it. Something was wrong with Murk recently. He had been eating the same amount of food, but he was much less talkative, and he didn’t like mentioning his glorious old days like before.

“Murk, do you want to go out for a walk? I can maintain my human form for another half an hour.” Larry also wanted to go out and take a look. The last time he went out, he went to the waste transfer station to look for balls. And we all knew how that went.

He had yet to take a good look at where he was now. He could take this chance and go look around.

Frost’s clothes were a bit loose for him, and it made him look like a melancholic teenager.

When the melancholic teenager appeared at the gate of the community with a black cat in his arms, he didn’t attract anyone’s attention. Everyone’s attention was on the young man who was stopped by security.

“Sir, I will just look around and come out. If you are worried, you can follow me.” The young man handed the security guard a cigarette and flattered him.

The security guard pushed the cigarette back and said impolitely, “Knock it off. You reporters are very cunning. It’s not that I’m making things difficult for you. It’s just that those who live here are all very important people. You told me you are here to look for your cat. Can’t you find a better excuse than that?”

That young man kept explaining, but the security guard wouldn’t let him in whether he offered his ID card or asked the security guard to follow him. It was a small matter that wouldn’t normally draw anyone’s attention.

What made Larry unable to pull his gaze away was that the young man was wearing a strange magician robe which was rarely seen in big cities. When he took out his ID card from his backpack, Larry saw the half-red and half-white birthmark on the back of his hand.

He was that weird person!

Wasn’t this like a pillow was offered to a person exactly when that person wanted to doze off? Larry was just thinking about how to find this person when that guy came to him.

Just as Larry was about to talk to the young man, Murk, who had been laid-back in his arms, suddenly clutched at his clothes with his paws. “Meow-ah-oooohhh! (Don’t go over. Hurry back to the house and hide!)
