Overcoming The Beast

Chapter 83 - Lightning Griffin

Leon spent the rest of the night holding the Griffin and watching over the three who slept carelessly. The rose and the Frost person to wake up was Flint. He walked out and saw Leon sitting on a tree branch.

"Leon you're back! When you were gone the three of us started thinking of the route we should take. Wait a second I'll bring it." Flint then walked back into his tent and came out with a folded map.

Leon looked and the map and nodded. "These are the worst possible places you can go through." Leon started explaining "This and this place is a popular place for exploring by both earth cultivators and temporary cultivators. All the rare materials would have long been taken. It's a great place if you want to have a fight to the death. I imagine that's not what you want?" Leon then continued an gave a few more reasons.

Flint looked a little embarrassed. "How do you know all of this?"

"I spent a lot of time researching the War Field. I didn't come here for fun." Leon said. Leon had done research on the War Field in his past life. He had found out that a great Library was in the area so he wanted to know the fastest route there. He was however followed and the Library became known to everyone. Soon someone came with the key and thousands of cultivators entered.

The library was filled arts. However it had three that completely broken away from all the others. The strongest cultivators fought for the three, Leon was only able to make it with one of the arts.

Other then arts the Library also held soul techniques and information on Heavenly materials. Leon also wanted to spend time going through those books. That was why he wanted to enter alone. He decided that he might as well take these guys, well I'd they survived until then.

Soon Benji and Chloe woke up. Flint told them about what Leon said and they felt embarrassed. Benji then asked Leon "So which direction do we go?"

"I think we've spend enough time running around now it's time to go to the earth continent's side."

The three looked confused weren't the places Leon told them to avoid less dangerous then the earth continent.

"We have to kill some earth cultivators to earn Battle merits or do you guys just plan on Judy killing beast?" They still looked confused isn't that what they were saying. "Like I said those places are where the earth cultivators have used spying techniques and found strategic places to ambush from."

"Where we are going is here." Leon points on the map. "This the earth army's weakest fortress at the frontlines; it's also their most hidden one."

The three heard about a fortress and were interested. If they could capture a fortress. They would gain a lot of Battle Merits compared to just killing a few cultivators.

The three agreed. Leon started walking towards the fortress he was going to take the long way around. Leon looked up and shouted shouted "Quickly follow me!"

The others looked up and saw a large brown vulture Flying above them. It however ignored them and seemed to be running away. The three however still listened and ran behind Leon. Leon found a nearby cave and took cover the three followed. Outside a torrent of lightning hit the ground. It was as if a pillar of Lightning had formed.

"What's happening?" Flint said as he shivered watching the Lightning fall. They could have been caught in that and instantly die.

"That vulture was a beast sent to spy on the field. The Lightning Army can't allow that, so they Like to kill them using the Lightning Pillar ability from far away."

"Sadly the one they killed was just a fake. The only casualty would have been us."

The others looked out and couldn't see a burnt corpse rather just sand falling from the sky.

Leon got up and said "Follow me closely."

The others nodded and said they would. They continued there journey.

Things had gotten awkward after seeing the Lightning Pillar. The three looked shaken. They knew they had already entered the main battle Field. That was why they didn't run into many beast but now they understood that no one cared about their lives. They could die from a simple act of carelessness.

Flint felt the mood was dripping quickly so he thought about changing the topic.

"Leon So what beast sid you capture? can we see it?"

Leon agreed he summoned his last life soul book that had been changed to look like his crimson Soul book. He then summoned the young Lightning Griffin.

The three had there eyes widen "A lightning Griffin!" They all shouted in unison.

Benji was the first to comment "That's even rarer then Flint's Flaming Winged Unicorn!"

Chloe was in love with how cute the beast looked. She decided she would find one too.

Benji added "Don't they live in packs? How did you capture one."

"I found it while it was injured. I originally planned on getting an egg but since I found a young one I went with it."

Flint suddenly asked "Leon there more Griffin right? can you tell me where you caught them, I want of capture one as well."

Chloe joined in "I want it know as well."

Leon told them the place. They nodded and made sure to remember it.

Leon and the party finally crossed the border and entered the Earth continent. As they took the long route around they were able to ignore most of the battles.

The earth continent was a large mountainous area. It had cliffs and hard rock everywhere. It had gorges and ravines. The sun was blazing and unlike the Lightning continent that rained lightning every other minute the earth continent did not rain down rocks.

"We're close to the fortress." Leon then led them. They battled a few earth beasts along the way.

Benji had a Thunder turtle, it made up for the lack of bulky beast in the party.

Leon could finally see the fortress. Here's the plan. "You guys hide here for a while. I'll go up and kill all the scouts around the fortress. Then I'll signal you to follow me in."

"We'll then separate. I'll go Find and kill the leader while you three can kill everyone else in the fortress."

The three didn't like the plan "Leon we can help you clear the scouts, and isn't it better to kill the leader together?"

Chloe said "I can help kill the scouts silently with my Lightning Shadow Cheetah."

Leon disagreed "I don't want the deaths to be silent I want them to be unnoticeable. I don't think any one of you three can pull it off. As for the leader, he should be at the Summoing expert level. You three would lose before you could even summon your soul books."

The three finally had to agree. Leon then summoned the Blood Harpy. She was the best at killing large groups silently.

She understood what to do. She flapped her wings and flew up a little. She summoned the spell book and used a sensing spell that had been added to it. She then used Bloodport to move around the area and silently kill all the people outside the fortress. She then moved on to kill everyone on the fortress walls and towers. When all of them were dead Leon had the Dragon transform back in to a Cold Mist Ghost Dragon.

Leon had it take him to a tower and drop him there. The Dragon had gotten stronger and now Leon had also gained an affinity for the ghost element. He could move through the other realm for a while.

Leon didn't have the Dragon transform back into a snake. He had it follow him in the other Realm for safety reasons. Leon then took out his lightning army badge and used it to shine light to where the three were standing.

When they saw the signal, the three slowly made their way to the tower Leon was on. They all climbed the wall reached. Him they looked around to see the tower covered with corpses.

They couldn't help but shiver. Leon had killed so many people in a few minutes. Mist of them were only slightly weaker then them.

"Follw the plan." Leon said. He then used Formless aura sand walked down the stairs. The three summoned their beasts on the tower.

They each only summoned two. They couldn't summon more as the inside of the fortress was too small of a space. Having more beast would also lessen their control on their other beast which would do more harm then good.

This is also why many Summoners didn't summon all their beast at once to fight. Unlike Leon who had a strong soul and could easily multi task. Others could barely control two beast at once. If they brought more they would weaken rather then strengthen.

It was at summoning expert where Summoners understood the importance of cultivating the soul and soul techniques. They would need strong soul techniques that also helped them keep track of multiple battles, and be able to have conversations with all the beasts at the same time.

Leon made his way to the leaders room. He knew the fortress from memory. He had the Blood Harpy summoned. In such a small space it did great. She was Leon's weakest beast before he had gotten the Lighning Spirit Butterfly or Lightning Griffin. However she was also the most versatile.

Leon easily moved through the fortress. Most of the guards were sleeping because they had had the night shift. A few came out but Leon used a combination of formless aura and the Blood Harpy's silent killing method.

The harpy made sure to absorb all the Blood leaving no scent to alert others. With the Vampiric Blood Art had gotten faster. Leon had reached the third level of absorption of the art. He was about to enter the Vampirism levels.

Leon finally found the room with the leader. He was busy writing a letter. He noticed the commotion and went to the door. As he opened it he saw Leon standing.

The leader took a step back and jumped out if the window. He saw the harpy was ready to cast a spell. Blood swords struck the place he had been.

As that leader fell and landed on the ground he summoned his soul book and beasts. Three beasts were summoned: a Landslide Bear, A variant earth shaker and a Raging Volcanic Bull.
