Rebirth: The Shadow Of Greed

Chapter 77 - Shot to the heart

....Accelerating faster, he managed to catch up to the side of the large transport artefact.

He overtook the large transport artefact and tried to slow down forcing it to slow down with him. Unfortunately the path there was large and the large transport artefact simply cut out to the right and overtook him accelerating even faster.

"Damn it! Hang on tight everyone, we're going to go ahead and make the transport artefact stop."

With precision, Daymas pressed the throttle hard as he accelerated even more quickly chasing the back of the large transport artefact. Straight ahead of them was a mountain pass with a lane so small it would only fit one vehicle at the most. Seeing this as his opportunity Daymas pressed the throttle hard again, this time swerving to the side of the large transport vehicle and overtook it entirely moving ahead of them as they entered the mountain path.

Being in a tight mountain pass was a huge advantage for Daymas as he started to decelerate bit by bit forcing the large transport artefact to slow down as well. After playing the braking game for a good distance both of the transport artefacts finally came to a complete stop.

"Stay here, We'll head out first to talk to the driver, let's see if they can negotiate peacefully and hopefully we don't have to fight."

Daymas exited the transport artefact with Arel and Zeno beside him. He walked up to the window of the large transport artefact, inside the window sat a balding old man with an upset look fiddling with his commswatch. Daymas extended his hand and tapped on the glass of the transport Artefat window.

"Good day sir, I am Lord Daymas Aquos. Someone has reported your vehicle carrying illegal objects and we would like to inspect your vehicle."

The balding old man winded down the window as he listened to what Daymas had to say. With great enthusiasm, he replied Daymas with an excited tone.

"Oh... Master Daymas! it is an honour to meet you, sir, I didn't realise that was your intention otherwise I would have stopped for you long ago. Apologies, but I'm an old man and my vision isn't all that it was, I didn't think that you wanted me to stop, I just thought it was those young'uns trying to play punk with me. Anyway, I've always heard so many stories about you going out for war and coming back victorious."

the balding old man opened the door and smiled as he looked earnestly at Daymas meeting him eye to eye preparing to come out of the vehicle.

"Hahaha, good things only I suppose? I don't suppose you could open up the back of the vehicle for us to take a look?"

"Why, certainly Master Daymas, right this way."

The balding man hopped out of the door of the vehicle and quickly ran to the back, he dug into his pocket for a bit digging out a bunch of keys and started to try it one by one, trying to unlock the lock that was on the back door. After fiddling around for a bit, the balding man finally opened the locked back door and with a huge swinging motion, the door swung open loudly only to reveal crates after crates of nutrition bars.

Zeno was the first to hop onto the transport artefact, he immediately fished out a knife and opened up the crate, picking out a packet of nutrition bar and inspecting it really closely.

"This is..." Zeno looked at the crates with confusion. "Should we open the crates and check inside?"

Daymas waved his hand stopping Zeno.

"I believe you have opened enough crates, come outside for the moment."

He turned to look at Arel, signalling him to get into the transport artefact.

"Arel, if you'd please."

Arel stepped forward, putting his palm on the artefact, his eyes glowed blue as he stood there like he had lost his soul for a couple of milliseconds. A flash of blue emerged from his eyes. After he blinked and opened his eyes again the blue hue was all but gone. Coming back to his senses, he immediately climbed down and walked directly towards Daymas' side and whispered something in his ear.

Daymas briskly walked over to the transport artefact and asked the 3 members left inside to come out and join them at the back of the large transport artefact.

"As per Arel's request, we're going to have to move the bulk of the crates out of the large transport artefact. I'm sorry sir, but we have to do our job, I hope you understand."

The balding old man just simply smiled as he looked onwards in awe at Daymas.

"It's okay master Daymas, I understand that you have to be thorough, go ahead."

Z, Odrunn and Soli started climbing up to the back of the large transport artefact, before Soli felt a yank on her shoulder.

"Where do you think you're going. You shouldn't be moving the crates, it's heavy and totally unbecoming of a woman."

Daymas said out loud as he continued to grip onto Soli's shoulders.

"Dad! I'm also training to be a soldier, it is such a simple task, why wouldn't you let me do it?"

Soli struggled free from his grip as she joined Z and Odrunn together on the large transport artefact.

With the joint effort between the three of them, it didn't take very long before they had managed to completely clear the area of the crates. Alighting from the large transport artefact, it was once again Arel's turn to climb up onto the vehicle. He stepped forward as he ran his hand along the wall until he found a button,

'Click' pushing that button, seemed to have opened a hidden compartment at the end of the large transport Artefact. The compartment could be seen creating a gap as panic was shown on the old man's face.

Daymas shook his head upon seeing the scene as he turned his direction and focus over to the balding man. Unfortunately, when he turned his head, the balding man was already at his c.h.e.s.t with a knife in hand stabbing it straight into Daymas' heart.
