Tales Of Good And Evil

Chapter 3 - You Are An Adventurer, Right?

After Richard thought – "I gave you my word, King Yama," he closed the quests window, and the seven menu buttons once again appeared before him. He focused on the last available button – , and the map showing the entire world of Eternalys opened.

Just like the earth, Eternalys didn't have a single continent but a few, and they were all separated by water with little to a lot of space between them. The continent that Richard was on, was the largest continent out of nine and was called – Ezair. The other continents were: Yukeora – The Land Of The Eternal Night, Maiza, Zaital, Vais – The Divine Forest, Daistal – The Forbidden Land, Qin – The Divine Land, Eden and The Unnamed Continent.

Looking at the Eternalys' world map, Richard thought, "If I had to guess in which continent Cain was imprisoned in. Then, he must be either in Daistal, Qin or the Unnamed Continent." He frowned. "But that's just a wild guess, and guesses like that are meaningless. Let's see… The first thing that I have to do is to find out in which continent Cain is truly imprisoned in. After that, I have to begin training and not stop until Cain breaks out of his prison which is somewhere in this world."

"Let's begin with my current location," Richard thought. He focused on his exact location on the map and that part got enlarged. But he couldn't see if there was a prison, a city, a town, a village, a forest, a pond or a lake in his vicinity as everything apart from where he was standing was greyed out. "I see. This is not going to be that easy," he thought, then he closed the map and the menu. After which, he stood up from the ground and looked around. But he couldn't see much as it was the middle of the night. The only thing that he saw was the tall grass.

"I should wait until the morning," Richard thought. "And where is Jonal? Did King Yama send him to a different location or did he leave?" He looked around a little more, but no matter how much he looked, he couldn't find Jonal. And so, he lied down on the ground and closed his eyes. After a few minutes, he fell asleep.

Richard slept through the night and when the morning came, he woke up and looked around. This time, he saw a windmill to the south-east. "Alright, let's go there," he thought and left for the windmill. On the way there, he stopped as he saw a blue slime resting on a large rock. Above the slime's head, he saw its name, level and health.

Unsheathing his sword, Richard inspected it by moving his eyes from its handle, all the way to its top. "It's good that I trained in many martial arts when I was younger, but the only martial arts that I trained in which uses weapons was kendo and that requires me to hold a weapon with both of my hands. And this sword's handle is way too short for that," he thought and sheathed the sword back. He walked towards the slime which rested on the rock, but the slime remained unmoving.

Once Richard reached the rock, he jumped onto it and stomped down his foot onto the slime. Notification messages started flashing in front of him as the slime splashed all over the rock and he just looked at these notification messages with a calm expression on his face.

A bar appeared on the top-left corner of his view, just below his health bar.

"More HUD elements," Richard thought. He continued towards the windmill. Reaching it, he saw a middle-aged man standing by it. He walked up to him. "Hello," he said.

"Hello, stranger," the middle-aged man said.

"Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"

The middle-aged man nodded his head. "Go ahead."

"Do you know who is Cain?"

The middle-aged man tilted his head. "Cain? I don't know anyone that goes by that name."

Richard nodded his head in understanding. "I see," he said. "Can you point me in the direction of the closest city, town or a village?"

"Yeah… But before that can you help me with something."

"And that is?"

"Please kill all the slimes around the windmill."

"Why ask me?"

"Aren't you an adventurer?"

Richard looked at the middle-aged man for a few seconds before saying, "I guess I am."

"So will you help me?"

"Alright. I will help."

"Thank you very much, stranger," the middle-aged man said. "But please be careful. Even though they are slimes, they are still monsters."

"I will return soon," Richard said and walked away from the windmill and the middle-aged man.

Richard killed all the slimes that he found by stomping onto them and then returned to the windmill. "I have completed what you wanted me to do."

"Thank you very much and to answer your question. The closest town is in that direction," the middle-aged man said as he pointed to the north. "You will be able to reach it in a few hours."

"Thank you," Richard said and left in the direction of the north.
