The Sun-Moon Spear God

Chapter 5 - Getting the First Spirit Ring

Chen Xin had left the Seven Leaves Village a few days after the Spirit Awakening Ceremony. The Nuoding Academy was close to the Village in the sense that it wasn't necessary for a person to travel by carriage of one had ample time to spare.

The trip from the Seven Leaves Village to the Academy could me made in two days if one walked along the path. As the Nuoding Academy was a spirit master academy, it also had a spirit beast forest near it. The forest wasn't as big nor did it contain spirit beasts as strong as the Star Dou Forest but it still had beasts strong enough for students of the Academy.

Chen Xin decided that he would get his first spirit ring before he went to the academy. Just as he was about to go towards that forest, he sensed a fluctuation of energy in his mind. The fluctuation came directly from the area where he had first met the spear spirit, he hurriedly sound an area which was in the shade yet was safe since he was still in the surrounding areas of the village. He soon found one in the shade of a giant tree and delved into his mind.

Chen Xin's POV

I reached out to the place I could feel was there in my mind since I was but but hadn't been able to access. The link formed this time and pulled me in through it.

I shook my head to remove the slight disorientation once I felt my feet touch the ground. Just as I opened my eyes I could see the scenery I had seen before I had been brought to the douluo continent, it still had the exact same view, only with the spear in the centre is the world shining in a dim light which was pulsing every now and then and looked like it would wake up any second.

I waited for it to awaken but it seemed like it would take some more time to fully wake up from its slumber. I decided to get out of my mind and continue my journey towards the Academy.

I opened my eyes in the real world and got up to continue my journey. The path up to the Academy was rather easy to find as it was used a lot by all the villages in the area to travel to the Nuoding City for selling their wares as well as all the crops that had been cultivated to the shops in the city.

The path forked once a halfway point was reached because the outskirts of the spirit beast forest close to Nuoding City had to be avoided by people who weren't spirit masters or weren't escorted by spirit masters. One of the routes avoided the forest entirely but needed a longer time to traverse and was favoured by the villages in the area.

The other road however went through the middle reaches of the forest where there were higher chances of being attacked by the hundred year old spirit beasts and thousand year beasts were rare but not unseen. The spirit masters used this road as it was very short and one needed very less time to reach the city through it.

I had already decided to take the shorter route to get my first spirit ring. I travelled along the road for an hour before I entered which I could definitely see was part of the spirit beast forest due to the aura which blanketed the place.

I continued on the path and took time to feel the aura which was gathered due to years and years of beasts cultivating in the forest and the battles which followed once spirit masters came to the forests.

Chen Xin was deep in thought as he walked towards Nuoding academy. Chen Xin could understand that spirit masters needed spirit rings in order to cultivate which made them hunt spirit beasts. But he felt that there should be another way for them to come to an agreement of some kind even with the circ.u.mstances. He wasn't naive enough to believe that the spirit masters would stop hunting spirit beasts as it was a necessity for them to get spirit rings, but he could imagine that the situation would slowly degrade generation after generation and one day it would erupt with a large retaliation from the spirit beasts if there were no efforts to find other ways for spirit masters to get spirit rings.

He knew there were other ways to cultivate as his old world didn't need such a thing as spirit rings. While he didn't know if that was possible in this world, he felt he should at least try to find a different way to get spirit rings for spirit masters.

In the end he decided, such things were very much out of his reach until he became at least a spirit saint or a spirit douluo.

Just as he was pondering about his future plans he heard a would of combat a few tens of meters on his left and decided to investigate. He sneakily went to the area where he could hear sounds of combat and his behind a large tree a few meters from the scene.

What he saw was two spirit beasts fighting each other with both of them being heavily injured.

One of the beasts was a Four armed Ape who was approximately 7 meters tall and arms which were as thick as his t.h.i.g.hs.

The other beast looked like a wolf with pure white feathers which was about a metre in its normal positions.

He could see that both beasts were breathing heavily and waited to see who among them would win. He could sense that both the beasts were strong from what he could feel and in his current state he wasn't a match for even a single one of them let alone both at the same time.

He waited for a while and just as he was about to give up and leave, the Ape charged towards the wolf in a final stand as a do or die move. He saw that the wolf was startled but dived out of the way and fired a beam of light from its mouth which hit the ape in the c.h.e.s.t and destroyed its heart. The apple fell to the ground and a purple ring materialised in the air above it.

He decided it was time to act and dashed at his fastest speed towards the wolf while summoning his spear. He attacked with a technique he had developed during his time in this world which gathered the entire potential the body generated and transferred it to the weapon which he was attacking with to make its speed increase by a factor of 3. The attack was named Flash Pierce as the attack worked with any weapon as long as it could be thrusted.

The outcome was as he had expected and the wolf was killed instantly due to its already great exhaustion and the strike which went directly through its head. A purple spirit ring came out of its body and Chen Xin Sat down to absorb as he couldn't sense another beast in his area of detection.

It took Chen Xin about 5 hours to absorb the ring as even with the strength of his body it wasn't easy for a rank 10 to absorb a thousand year old ring

Once the ring had been absorbed, Chen Xin was covered in sweat due to how much effort he had needed to absorb the ring. He was grateful that no other beast had been in the area.

Once he completed absorbing the ring he felt information on what exactly his spirit ability was enter his mind.

It was a skill called "Light spear" and could create spears made of light. The spears made could be used as long range weapons by shooting them towards others or they could be used in close combat, the strength of the spears was based on his spirit rank. So the stronger he was, the stronger the spears would be.

He tried the spirit skill once or twice to test it and found that it was good as a long range ability rather than using it as a close combat weapon as he had his martial spirit for that.

Once he was done testing his skill, he returned to the path towards the Academy and started his journey again....
