Worlds Conquering Necromancer

Chapter 38 - Last Preparations

For the next two weeks, Cavetown developed considerably. Its territory expanded further while the population increased continuously. Some of the new batch of children were educated from birth to become teachers and trainers, while the others were trained to become soldiers. A new group was created specially for planting trees at the edge of the forest.

In these two weeks, the army got enhanced even more. After the battle in the dungeon, a lot of low tier undead and monsters were at the threshold of evolving to their second evolution. They managed to get more xp by training and hunting and finally evolve. The spiders were given to some individuals, one for each, with the hope of making from them proper mounts and companions. The wargs though were left to reproduce more, as their numbers were still too low. Also, several spy parties came back from their missions, which were then employed back into the army.

The Earth mages made new houses for the newcomers, also made more buildings with specific purposes, like an enormous one for training, one for supplies, an armory, etc. The walls were reinforced, while their design was a little changed to accommodate the long-ranged soldiers better.

All this time, Cavetown was preparing for war with the Themo Kingdom. Emily and her men were making plans for the first attack.

"As the cities and strongholds in the western part of the kingdom are mostly on our side, I propose to move stealthily towards the Themo city, the capital, and attack there. We wouldn't risk being detected this way because of advancing too slow, and the enemy wouldn't be able to gather all its forces in the capital," proposed Urul. All the council members took some time to analyze this choice.

"It is a good plan, but, even if we win, there would be a lot of forces that would either gather together to attack us from the start, or manage to escape and gather an even stronger army and other countries support to attack us. We must choose the best option possible." said Glukz after considering all the pros and cons.

"Yes, but we don't really have a better choice. Attacking their whole force head-on would be problematic, as we would have to sacrifice a lot of men. Attacking every city and stronghold one by one is also out of the question, as it would take way too much time, and would permit the enemy to gather. We can't encircle the whole kingdom either, as we lack the firepower, and it would be stupid too, as the enemy would easily pass through by focusing their attacks on a point," said Ramiya, thinking about what else strategies they could use.

"Let's go with this choice then, but that doesn't mean we would really have to fight all the capital's forces. We should send a group to assassinate the current king, Fergus Themo, at the same time as we attack the capital. We could ease the tension on our forces even if we won't manage to assassinate him successfully. Even though the vampire ogres and trolls are big, they are the strongest in our forces at the moment, together with Cast and Orgug. They should make an unit with the black skeleton rogues," said Emily after careful considerations.

The skeletons and zombies got special skills after evolving, related to their speciality. The black skeleton rogues gained the ability to hide into someone or something's shadow. It was a substantial boost to their assassinating power, as they could enter their target's shadow and wait for the perfect chance to attack, when the target is the least wary or protected. It also makes their way out easier, as they could enter the shadow after a mission and wait until everything quietens.

"As I remember, Themo was nearly always flourishing thanks to slavery. They even have a colosseum where the population watches fights between gladiators and monsters, usually on festivals or some important celebrations and ceremonies. Can't we wait until one of those? Then Elise and her squad would infiltrate the ogres and trolls in the city as slaves for the arena, while the skeletons would hide in their shadows," proposed Zeo.

Emily agreed to let her participate at these meetings, contrary to some of her men's opinion against it. Zeo came quite often during these two weeks, mainly just strolling around, talking to the citizens, or following after Emily and Ramiya everywhere.

"That's a good idea! Thanks, Zeo. Elise, when will be the next festival organized in the capital?" Emily asked in a good mood. They finally found a good enough plan to progress with for the invasion.

"If I'm not wrong, it must be the king's daughter, Princess Madelina's, birthday in a week. The whole city will gather in front of the royal palace to celebrate. There will also be important personalities from all around the kingdom, and even Prince Abel of the Vagael Kingdom. There is a rumor Fergus wants to give him Princess Madelina to form an alliance, more specifically, help him win the war against the elves."

"Hmm... We could take him as a hostage, but do not kill him no matter what. After conquering the capital, we will become an official, newly created kingdom. We can't risk waging war against another state before stabilizing the situation in the kingdom. Now then, everything is decided. We will go with this plan, but Elise, make a deal with those managing the fights in the arena. Try to get an official doc.u.ment and permit so we wouldn't have any unpleasant situations then," instructed Emily.

"Understood! I'll go take care of it this moment." Elise said and departed with her men.

"Now then, we have to decide on who exactly will go on this mission, and also make plans for when we actually enter the capital. First of all, this has to be done at dusk, as the vampires are weak during the day. A special tourney would be held for this. We also must consider if I should go with them. Now that the black rouges got this skill, it must be possible for me to learn it, too. We've got a whole week for this, so I should manage somehow..."

Ramiya looked with pleading eyes, as if saying, "Please, don't go! It's going to be dangerous there." Nonetheless, Emily decided not to give in to her pleads, as this had to be done.

"It would look suspicious if they would wear armor being prisoners, and it's risky to hide them in the cart, too. It would be way better if I went with them, storing the armor and weapons. We could even use the grenades made from kobold egg shells to incite chaos during the festival. All this time, the city must be surrounded. No one must escape, or the whole plan might fail."

"Understood!" said all the members in unison, ready to go prepare all that's necessary for the plan.
