Worlds Conquering Necromancer

Chapter 40 - Unexpected Factor

"Emily, we've reached the capital. We have to pass the inspection now before going further." said Elise. Emily found out thanks to the system that she could learn the "Shadow Disguise" skill, but it would take her a lot of time. She couldn't master the skill in a week, needing a bit more time to succeed. Still, she went on this mission as a part of the adventurer's group. Not long ago, Elise helped make her an adventurer's license, so now she was officially an adventurer.

"All right, let's do everything as planned." she said, getting down from the carriage. "Elise, I'll wait for you here. Go talk to those guards." Elise nodded and went with the whole group except Emily to give a report and get a permit to pass through.

'I hope everything will be fine,' she thought. As she was leaning her back on the carriage and revising the plan in her head, someone approached her from the back.

"Good evening, pretty lady. M-may I have the honor of knowing your name, little princess?" he started the conversation, but stuttered midway.

'He's not a simple person based on his attire... He must either be a noble or from royalty. How come we've managed to attract their attention even before passing this checkpoint? No matter, it's important not to f.u.c.k up right now.' she thought.

"My name is Emily Laryel, nice to meet you." she said, slightly bowing forward. "How may I help you?" The boy was staring mindlessly at her face, as if bewitched by her beauty. 'What's wrong with this cutie? Don't tell me he's into small girls...'

After he finished zoning out, he tried to think how to continue the conversation. "Miss Emily, my name is Abel Vagael, the seventh prince of the Vagael kingdom. May I inquire something?" he tried to sound as polite and elegant as possible.

'Oh god, from all the people I could meet, he is the one I expected the least. Now I've got a foreign prince on my tail... Hmm, let's try to take advantage of this event!'

"Of course you may, your highness, Prince Abel. Ask anything you want." she said humbly. He thoroughly checked every word he was about to say.

"Miss Emily, will you be present at today's festival? Would you like to become my dancing partner and accompany me for this evening?" he asked, totally forgetting what was his objective in the first place. 'Screw it! I finally found the girl I like and I should be engaged to someone I've never seen?! If my side won't cancel the engagement, I'll make them cancel it themselves!'

"It would be an honor, your highness, but I'm afraid I don't even have the needed attire to attend the festival..." complained Emily. 'If he wants me to accompany him, it would be too strange to agree right from the start.'

"Oh, but I think your dress is more than enough for you to attend one. It wouldn't be a problem to buy you a new one, either. And please address me simply by Abel, no need for this kind of things between us." Abel said, trying to sound as polite and amiable as possible.

"If you say so, Abel. If you think my dress is good enough, then so be it. I wouldn't like for you to spend money on me, a girl you just met. I'll accept your proposal to accompany you on this ball." 'If you want to show me the way near Fergus and his daughter, I'll be really thankful, boy.' Emily thought.

"That's great! Let's go, I'll show you around the city until the ball starts, but first we have to pass this inspection." he said happily, taking her by the hand and then walking towards his carriage. There, Edeline was waiting for him.

"Oh god, Abel, who is she?" she asked, clearly taken aback by the fact that her brother, who never had that much of an interest towards girls, brought one back after less than 20 minutes of going out. Even more, this girl's beauty was something to be envious about. 'Don't tell me he finally fell in love, and on first sight at that...'

"Edeline, make acquaintance, this is Emily, my partner during tonight's event. Emily, this is my sister, Edeline Vagael, third princess of the Vagael kingdom. There's no need for formalities with her, either." he said while opening the door of the carriage, helping Emily get in, then entering himself. He entirely forgot about his sister, who was waiting for him outside all this time. "Tom, let's move on!" he said after Edeline also got in.

-So, who are you, girl? asked Edeline, clearly angry at her neglecting, stupid brother.

-My name is Emily Laryel. I work as an adventurer for some time now and met prince Abel by chance while waiting for my companions.

-Won't they worry about your sudden disappearance?

- No need to worry, I managed to leave them a message before coming here.

- When did you left them a message? I was with you all this time.

Hearing Abel's words, she used some light magic to form letters in the air. One by one, Abel's name was formed.

"The thing is, I know some magic spells. I left them a magical message." Emily said. In essence, she didn't have to leave anything as there were the skeletons in the shadows. They've seen what happened and would tell Elise everything.

"Oh, so you're a mage. That's pretty rare..." They talked more about themselves on their way towards the center of the capital. Abel asked a lot of questions, as he wanted to know more about her. He was falling even deeper in love the more he talked to her. When they reached their destination, he took her by the hand and went to look around the town. They still had around an hour before the ball started, so they could walk under the night sky in a romantic atmosphere. At least that's what Abel hoped.

"So, do you want to visit anyplace around?" Abel asked her.

"To be honest, I don't know the city that much. Hmm... Let's go to that stall and take some sweets, what do you think?" Opposite to her expectations, a member of the royalty, known to be arrogant and always dislike everything commoners' related, agreed to her proposal.

"Sure, why not? If you like sweets that much, I'll have to show you what my cook in Vagael can make somehow." They both went and ate a caramelized apple, before continuing their stroll through the streets.
