Worlds Conquering Necromancer

Chapter 43 - Just A Chapter

"Abel, what have you done this time?!" Edeline berated him angrily. 'If the engagement is broken, I'll be punished when I get back to Vagael. Father is always cruel when it comes to failed missions...'

"Don't worry, sis, the engagement isn't annulled yet. Right?" he asked, looking in Emily's eyes. 'It would be awesome if I'll manage to be engaged with Emily...'

Emily, seeing his pleading look, said, " Princess Edeline, please leave us for some time. We've got to talk about a serious problem, and your presence is unneeded." Even though she was quite annoyed at how Emily talked to her, after seeing Fergus nod, she went out without further questions.

"What do you want?" she straightforwardly asked Abel after helping him sit down on a chair. The majority of his wounds were already healed, but he still felt a little fatigued.

"Emily, you said you are the new queen of this kingdom, and, well... Doesn't that mean you need a king by your side? To be honest, I'm the best candidate, as there couldn't be any other foreign princes here other than me, and even more, wanting to arrange a marriage with the leader of a newly created kingdom." he tried to convince Emily with everything he could.

'Hmm... What he says isn't actually wrong, but I've got Ramiya, so why would I need him? On the other hand, an engagement isn't really a wedding. It could be canceled at any time, especially considering my current body's age... Nah, I'll manage it out somehow without him. Though, if he wants to come under my command, I wouldn't say no.' Emily was thankful he helped her this time, but that still meant nothing. If she wasn't strong and lucky enough, she would have been a hostage by now because of his actions.

"My answer is no, Abel. I already have a person I love and care about, and I wouldn't want to hurt her." Abel's expectations suddenly crumbled. A sad smile appeared on his face, as if trying to stop his tears from flowing. Before he could say anything, Emily continued, "But, you could stay here with me if you want to come under me. Become, in a way, my vassal. If the issue with Madelina might provoke you problems, we could continue with the engagement. I have my means to make this possible..."

Abel needed some time to think about it. 'Of course it's sad that she already has someone in her heart, but if I'll always stay by her side and help, she might find a place for me in her heart, too. She managed to conquer a whole kingdom at her age, so she has extremely high potential. If I were to stay with her, I wouldn't lose anything at all. The only thing that concerns me now is father... If I won't give him a good enough explanation, he might even interfere and attack this kingdom, before it could consolidate its power...'

"Emily, I want to become your vassal, but I have to do something about my family. Could I tell them that I'm one of your marriage candidates, so they wouldn't interfere in what you do so much, or even worse, attack you?" he asked after careful thinking. He kneeled on one leg, as if making a vow to be forever loyal.

"Allright, we'll let your sister send the message to your family, but only after several days. I need to take care of the capital and the problems that may arise after tomorrow's proclamation." After five minutes, an undead pigeon came back. It stated that the group which came here to assassinate the king retreated back to the army, and that the army is going to hide in the nearby woods, as ordered. Emily sent several pigeons to the allied nobles to stop whatever they were going to do and wait for an invitation to the capital.

"Now then, everything is more or less decided. Fergus, send people to invite all this kingdom's nobles tomorrow on a very important event in the palace. State that those which won't attend will be labeled as traitors, their territories would go under your control while their families and people's lives would be in danger. By the way, cancel the slave and monster's fights that were going to take place tonight." she gave a series of orders, then sit to the table where Fergus was previously eating. She poured herself some high quality wine to drink and just relaxed the whole night.

When her mana regenerated to an acceptable amount, she resurrected princess Madelina, too. It was lucky that the person resurrected by her had their past life memories, so Emily didn't have to explain how she should behave herself in public and all. ' That means Cast is a special case, which might have appeared thanks to his special way of dying...'

"Emily, are you a necromancer?" Abel asked after eating several servings of food. "I heard that those people learned how to control the souls and bodies of the dead, managing to awaken the deceased to do their biding. Though, it's usually considered as myths or stories to scare children. The majority of the undead we hunt appear in a natural way, either because the place was overflowing with mana, or the deceased soul had unfinished things and strong feelings before dying. If it's the latter, the undead is usually strong and vengeful. There are also the vampires and theirs kingdoms, too."

"I will tell you when the time comes. You should prove your loyalty to the rest of my forces, then we'll talk about this one more time." she chuckled, then sipped once more from her fragrant and delicious cup of red wine. Now that she had time to relax, she observed the room attentively. The walls had portraits of different people, all wearing a crown. Here and there were placed vases with beautiful flowers in them. The table and chairs were made out of an oak-like tree. The tableware was made of silver, and the food on the plates were super tasty, too.

'It's amusing how people at the top could give in to their d.e.s.i.r.es, neglecting the lives of those at the bottom, even though they have the responsibility to take care of them. The majority of this kingdom's citizens are poor. Even though there is slavery, usually the nobles are owning them. While the king which had the responsibility to ensure a safe and happy life to his subordinates, doesn't care at all. I'll try to change this, being the first ruler to care about his subordinates, and ensure the whole population with a house and food.' Emily thought, her eyes sparkling with new determination.
